40k and Heels… holla!

I noticed a few of the War Dolls posting their gaming history… so I figured I would add mine to the mix.

I’m not the typical gamer, which is usually clear from the fact that I will always wear heels to a 40k game. While I have always been a video gamer, I never really ventured into tabletop games further than Scrabble and Monopoly. I absolutely am the girlfriend that started playing tabletop games to be involved in my boyfriend’s hobbies – but my intentions of just being a good girlfriend developed into a genuine love for the games. Go figure.

Rickey (my boyfriend for those of you who don’t know him) knows that I’m competitive and that I don’t need someone to hold my hand, and honestly I think most girls feel this way when they enter the gaming world. I don’t know if it’s because Rickey had faith in my gaming ability or if I just found myself a good man (or some combination thereof), but I have yet to be the “healer girlfriend.” Rickey showed me how to play the games and then let me do my thing. He showed me how to play Magic, and now my deck regularly beats his deck – the one that I built myself from scratch. He showed me how to play Pathfinder, and then I created my character. Most recently, he showed me how to play Warhammer 40k. Jill was kind enough to loan me an army of Sisters while I was learning, and now I’m in the process of building my own Tau army (and I am still very excited about painting their armor pink and black).

gamer girlsCami absolutely has a point – most of these games have SO many rules that being thrown into them head on can be overwhelming. The gaming world is most certainly a male dominated industry, but that doesn’t mean a girl can’t hold her own. Let them think we can’t form successful strategies or that we’re not as smart – they’ll stop laughing when they lose.

This is why I’m so excited about The War Dolls. We were all beginners at one point and everyone remembers what it’s like to have a massive amount of rules on top of “newb” comments being thrown at you from elitists. People like Cami and Rickey gave me the strength to power through the nonsense until I had a grasp of the games, and I am excited to be able to do that for other girls that want to hold their own in this atmosphere. There is no reason to be the “healer girlfriend”… let’s show these boys what we’re made of!

  1. Oh god, heels to tabletop games, you are a masochist, I like it. Seriously though, nothin wrong with feelin sexy whilst playing games.

Glad to have you working with us though

  2. I am constantly jealous of her heels. Not only does she wear them and own it, but her shoes and so freaking cute I don’t know what to do with myself.

  3. Lol aw thanks Jill. You missed my new pair on Sunday – plaid boots with all kinds of skulls and chains and stuff hanging off them. I don’t see myself wearing them on a regular basis, but they’ll be great for gigs. I mostly wore them on Saturday to show Cami. 😀

Ok, maybe a little bit of a masochist… but there’s nothing better than winning a 40k game and looking cute while you do it. 🙂 And thanks Rachel! I’m glad to be aboard!
